A Piece of Kabale Serenity
Hakyiri B&B t is a peaceful retreat set on the quiet outskirts of Kabale Municipality in Western Uganda. Designed to keep you at peace with yourself and connected to the nature around you, Hakyiri offers a calm and homely escape just beyond the bustle of Kabale’s Central Business District.
The property sits on 0.3 hectares of land in Gaaju, Nyabikoni, strategically located at the periphery of the town, close enough for convenience, yet far enough to preserve tranquility. This land was acquired on January 3rd, 1976 by Mrs. Marion Biteete Akankwasa and her late husband, Gideon Mutanga Akankwasa, marking the beginning of a deeply personal and enduring family legacy.
Our Story
Construction of the main building began in the early 1980s as a private country home. Progress spanned nearly two decades following the tragic death of Mr. Gideon Mutanga Akankwasa (1940–1983), who was brutally gunned down in Kampala on June 18, 1983, and amid the national turmoil and economic challenges Uganda faced at the time. Despite these hardships, the home endured, shaped by resilience, patience, and purpose.
Architecturally, the main building is a distinctive blend of colonial design and traditional Kikiga homestead influence, crowned with a European-style roof. Built with brick and mortar, it features wooden ceilings on the ground floor and concrete ceilings in the basement, reflecting both warmth and durability.
On March 1, 2024, Hakyiri B&B opened its doors to the public, inviting guests to share a space once reserved for family life, memory, and quiet living.
The Property B&B Experience
Hakyiri B&B is thoughtfully arranged across four distinct structures designed to ensure comfort, functionality, and privacy. The main building houses twelve fully self-contained guest rooms within a sixteen-room structure, while a separate building accommodates the kitchen, dining area, and veranda lounge for relaxed communal dining. Additional structures provide security and staff facilities, supporting smooth and secure daily operations.
The guest rooms are distributed across two levels, with eight rooms on the ground floor and four in the basement. Originally built as a private residence, each room is unique in size and layout, offering individual character and charm. Most rooms accommodate two guests and include a work desk, while a single room is ideal for solo travelers. All rooms feature modern en-suite bathrooms, smart televisions, solar and grid power, and every stay includes a complimentary breakfast for a comfortable and refreshing experience.
